Qual é a diferença entre HUG e RUG?

Hoje inicia-se uma nova fase no blog, uma série de "posts" derivados da pergunta "qual a diferença entre ____ e ______? Este é uma questão recorrente as aulas; diferença em questão (ou as diferenças), pode incluir pronúncia (pronounce), significado (meaning), ortografia (spelling), etc..., mas em geral as palavras devem ser parecidas.

OK. Let's start!

What is the difference between HUG and RUG?

A- Well. Let's see the synonyms:

HUG = Embrace.

RUG +/- = Carpet.


B- Pronounce:


HUG /hʌg/  

Ou seja RRÃG (Lembre-se que o H tem som de R forte ou 2 Rs)


RUG /rʌg/

Isto é, RÃG (Lembre-se que o R correponde ao fonema do R fraco ou 1 R)
 


C- Let's see some examples:


1- HUG: 


They hugged each other when they met at the station. (Eles se abraçaram quando se encontraram na estação.)
She sat* on the floor hugging her knees  (Ela se sentou no chão abraçando os joelhos)

Obs. É substantivo (Abraço) e verbo (Abraçar = to hug - hugged - hugged)


2- RUG:


My dog loves lying on the rug in front of the fire. (Meu cachorro adora deitar [ficar deitado] no tapete em frente á lareira.)
Persian rug (Tapete persa)
